How Old Do You Have To Be To Get A Hotel Room In Colorado?

When planning a trip to Colorado, one of the first questions travelers may ask is, “How old do u have to be to get a hotel room?” In Colorado, like in many other states, the minimum age to rent a hotel room can differ depending on the hotel’s policies. Understanding these age requirements before booking can help make sure that your stay is hassle-free.

General Hotel Age Requirements in Colorado

In Colorado, most hotels require guests to be at least 18 years old to rent a room. However, some hotels set their own policies and may require guests to be 21 years old. This age requirement often depends on the type of hotel and its location. Chain hotels and luxury properties might have stricter age policies than smaller, independent establishments.

For those wondering how old to get a hotel room in Colorado, it is important to check the hotel’s specific rules. Some hotels cater to families and might have more lenient policies, while others cater to a more adult-oriented clientele and set higher age requirements. Always verify the hotel’s policy before booking to avoid any issues at check-in.

How to Rent a Hotel Room if You Are Under 21

If you are under 21, renting a hotel room in Colorado might seem tricky, but it is still possible. Many hotels will allow guests who are 18 and older to rent a room as long as they present a valid credit card and a government-issued ID. It is a good idea to call ahead to confirm with the hotel directly to avoid any surprises upon arrival.

Some hotels may also ask for a higher deposit from younger guests to cover any potential damage. This is common in hotels that cater to younger guests or those near popular nightlife areas. If you are under 21, be prepared for these additional requirements, especially if you are booking a room near places like downtown Denver or the ski resorts.

Colorado’s Laws Regarding Hotel Age Limits

Colorado’s laws do not specifically mandate a minimum age for renting a hotel room. However, the state does regulate the legal drinking age, which is 21. This means hotels located near bars, clubs, or venues that serve alcohol may enforce a higher age limit.

While the state laws leave it to hotels to set their own policies, many choose to set the age at 21 to comply with alcohol-related regulations.

If you are wondering how old you have to be to rent a hotel room in Colorado, it is important to note that while state law does not directly impact hotel bookings, it may influence how individual hotels set their policies. Be sure to check with the hotel ahead of time to verify if you meet the requirements.

Popular Hotels that Allow 18-Year-Olds to Check In

There are several popular hotels in Colorado that allow 18-year-olds to rent a room. These include many budget hotels, motels, and some boutique hotels in cities like Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs. These hotels often cater to younger travelers, such as students or tourists, who are under 21.

In these establishments, the main requirement is often proof of age and a valid credit card. These hotels understand that many young people travel for various reasons, such as attending events or exploring Colorado, and offer flexibility in their policies to accommodate this demographic. Always check the hotel’s website or call in advance to confirm their age policy.

Luxury Hotels and Age Requirements in Colorado

Luxury hotels in Colorado tend to have stricter age requirements. Many require guests to be 21 or older to rent a room, especially if they offer alcohol services, high-end amenities, or cater to an adult clientele. These hotels often attract business travelers, couples, or guests seeking a more refined experience.

If you are under 21, you might find it difficult to book a stay at one of these luxury hotels. However, some of these establishments may make exceptions, particularly if you have a responsible adult co-signer or if you are booking a room as part of a package with other amenities. Always read the fine print when booking a luxury hotel in Colorado.

Checking in as a Minor

For minors who are traveling without a parent or guardian, checking into a hotel in Colorado can be more complicated. Most hotels require a parent or guardian’s consent, and some may even request a notarized letter from the minor’s parent or guardian. It is always wise to contact the hotel directly for guidance on the paperwork or consent required.

Hotels in major cities like Denver or Colorado Springs may have special accommodations for minors traveling alone. They might require additional forms of identification or documentation to verify that the minor has permission to stay at the hotel. Always be prepared with the necessary paperwork when traveling as a minor.

Impact of Red Rocks Amphitheater on Hotel Age Policies

Many visitors to Colorado stay in hotels near popular attractions like Red Rocks Amphitheater. Given that Red Rocks hosts concerts and events, it attracts a wide variety of guests, including young adults. As a result, some nearby hotels are more lenient with their age policies to accommodate attendees.

Hotels close to Red Rocks may allow 18-year-olds to rent a room, as they expect to host concertgoers and tourists who are not yet 21. However, other hotels in the area may have higher age requirements, especially if they cater to a more mature audience. Always confirm age requirements when booking accommodations for an event at Red Rocks.

The Role of Credit Cards and Identification

When renting a hotel room in Colorado, a valid credit card and government-issued ID are usually required, regardless of your age. Hotels may place a hold on your credit card to cover potential damages or incidentals. This is especially true for younger guests or those under 21, who may be asked to make a larger deposit or meet other requirements.

Even if you are 18 or older, it is important to see to it that your credit card has sufficient funds and that your ID is current. Hotels use this information to verify your identity and age, making it an important part of the booking process. Always bring a valid ID to your hotel stay to avoid complications at check-in.

College Students and Hotel Stays in Colorado

College students in Colorado often travel to visit friends, attend sporting events, or enjoy a weekend getaway. Many students under 21 may wonder how old they have to be to get a hotel room in Colorado. While some hotels will rent to students who are 18 or older, others may have stricter policies, especially during peak tourist seasons.

If you are a student planning to visit Colorado, look for budget hotels or those catering specifically to young travelers. These establishments are more likely to offer flexible age requirements and can be an excellent choice for students who are traveling with friends. Always contact the hotel to confirm age policies before booking.

Age Restrictions for Hotels near Ski Resorts in Colorado

Hotels near ski resorts in Colorado may have different age requirements compared to those in urban areas. Ski resorts often attract families, couples, and older guests, which can influence the hotel’s policies. Some resorts may set the minimum age for check-in at 21, especially if the property is upscale or offers ski packages for adults.

If you plan to stay near a ski resort, be prepared to show proof of age and a valid credit card. Some resorts may allow 18-year-olds to check in, but it is important to check the hotel’s policy before booking, especially if you are planning to stay during ski season, which is a busy time for these hotels.

Booking a Hotel Room as a Group

When booking a hotel room as a group, the minimum age requirement can vary depending on the hotel’s policy. Many hotels in Colorado will allow a group of young adults to check in as long as one member is 21 or older. This is especially true for hotels that cater to young travelers, such as those in popular nightlife areas.

However, some hotels may require all guests in a group to meet the minimum age requirement. Be sure to check the hotel’s policy in advance if you are traveling with a group, especially if some of the guests are under 21. Group bookings often come with additional rules, such as higher deposits or restrictions on certain hotel amenities.

What to Do If You Are Denied a Room

If you are denied a room due to age restrictions, you have a few options. The first step is to politely ask the hotel about their policy and see if any exceptions can be made. In some cases, you may be able to present additional documentation or work with the hotel to meet their requirements.

If the hotel maintains its age restrictions, you can consider looking for another hotel that has more lenient policies. Many budget hotels, motels, and independent properties in Colorado have flexible age requirements and can be a better option for younger guests. Always call ahead to avoid surprises at check-in.
